About Gerald Carpenter
Jerry Carpenter, born in West Virginia, educated at Berea College in Kentucky and Catholic University of America, moved from Washington, DC, to California in 2000.
Working as an Information Technology professional is a stressful job; thus, in an effort to find peace he began painting watercolors years ago under the tutelage of Ms. Bobbie Dixon as part of the Santa Clara Adult Education Program and since then studied with other prominent artist.
He began drawing and painting as a child, especially architecture. The medium of choice was Acrylics during his high school and college years. A developing career path caused him to long abandon the art. In recent years, the change to watercolor was a freeing process. He strives to paint with detail and multiple layers of color. He is inspired by a favorite line of a fellow artist who says, “Bring something different to every painting, don’t just paint what you see”. Currently, subject matter can range from still life, architecture, landscape, reflections, and on watercolor paper or watercolor canvas.
Jerry now lives in Santa Clara, CA and enjoys developing bonsai with the Kusamura Bonsai Club of Palo Alto, the Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt, and Filoli Estate and Gardens. He is a member of the Santa Clara Valley Watercolor society. “Painting brings great peace to my soul.”
His paintings can be seen at various Santa Clara Valley Watercolor shows.
